I’m a little late in sharing, but I wanted to tell you all about the amazing time we had with Laura Schwartz of White House Strategies!
Laura came to town and talked to the fantastic members and guests of ISES-GT; she spoke to the value of networking and how to do it like a pro! Laura began the evening with a display of the principles she writes about. She certainly walks the talk! Below is a picture of the custom designed cake created by none other than Donna Ford of Sweet Memories Bakery.
Custom designed to match Laura
Laura embraced the attendees with a pleasant smile and firm handshake. She regaled the group with wonderful stories and tales of her “climb”. As the evening progressed, Laura spoke of her experiences as White House correspondent and beyond.
Laura Schwartz is a phenomenal speaker with a top-notch personality. The Greater Triangle Chapter of ISES thoroughly enjoyed the event and the food was amazing! The Crabtree Marriott delivered! They went above and beyond to ensure that we were taken care of and all needs were met.
Thank you to all involved for creating a truly amazing and SEXY event! Special thanks to Julie Lee of the Marriott Crabtree; Carrie Peele of Blue Diamond Limo; Lenny Fritts of Touch of Class DJs; Allison Perry of Cute Buttons; Tesh Parekh of IWP Photography; Julie Liles ofJulie Liles Floral; Donna Ford of Sweet Memories Bakery; Makia Walls of AOT Events; Bridgett DuPree of Connie Duglin Linen

What an exciting month in the world of education and events!
It has been a while since the last post but not due to lack of topics… try too many topics!
Yes, we have been so busy here this month and have decided to grab a few minutes to give you an update.
I am all about education and because my company is Always On Top, EventWorld 2011 was at the top of the list this month.
Beautiful Details from the Marriott Union Station Lobby
I received a scholarship from the Search Foundation to attend EventWorld 2011. If you are not familiar with the Search Foundation, you should certainly take a moment to check it out. It’s an amazing organization that provides support for event professionals that are confronted with a catastrophic occurrence. How amazing is that? People helping people is what it’s all about.
The conference was held in St. Louis and hosted by the Marriott Union Station Hotel. This hotel is a remodeled train station and it was absolutely amazing!
The night I arrived, we had dinner at an Asian Fusion Tapas restaurant. I highly recommend the Mosaic restaurant in St. Louis!
Yummy Mushroom Tart
EventWorld was full of fun, educational programs designed to encourage, motivate and inspire! I had loads of fun meeting people from across the US, Canada and the UK!
The affair to remember was the glitzy and glamorous Esprit Awards. The decor was beautiful and elegant. I have included a few iPhone pics for your enjoyment!
If you ever have an opportunity to attend EventWorld, DO IT!

As the title states, I am still on cloud nine from last night’s event!
I am overjoyed with the outcome of the Special Event Planning Course Panel Discussion held at 1705Prime yesterday.
This once in a lifetime event entitled, “The Event Industry: Beyond the Classroom… Behind the Scenes with NC Industry Leaders“, offered my students the opportunity to get up close and personal with a great group of industry professionals.
Our panel included: Tracy Adams of Adams and Events; Kevin DeHimer of Rocky Top Hospitality; Donna Ford of Sweet Memories; Lyn Graves of Fresh Affairs and Paula Hunter of Party Reflections.
The class left with industry insight and REAL TALK from REAL PEOPLE who love what they do and want to preserve industry standards and a strong code of ethics. It was AMAZING!! See the pictures below however I cannot say too much…it was a special night for my class only.
Paula put together 3 tabletops to show the students the variance of the rental costs.
Lyn provided these beautiful floral centerpieces
The students are getting to know the panelists
Rocky Top Hospitality provided a fabulous menu
What a wonderful night had by all!!
and of course a sweet treat = Sweet Memories

Whether you are a bride, a business owner or someone who loves the beauty of nature… you need to visit
The Oaks at Salem
The Oaks at Salem has everything the elegant bride is looking for. As the premiere venue for weddings, receptions, rehearsal dinners, and other Triangle functions, the property provides numerous options for outdoor and indoor entertaining.
Combining centuries-old charm with the best of modern conveniences, the setting is designed to capitalize on the views from every vantage point. The surrounding trees provide the perfect backdrop for engagement photos. The unimposing ducks quietly reside in the serene, neighboring pond.
The owner of The Oaks, April Maness, is as easy-going as the breeze that welcomed me upon arrival. She spoke with enthusiasm and a true love for this new venture. For those of you lucky enough to have your momentous occasion at The Oaks, I am sure that you will be satisfied with April’s level of customer service.
I am certainly looking forward to coordinating many events within The Oaks at Salem.
The Oaks is conveniently located only fifteen miles from downtown Raleigh, two miles from historic downtown Apex, and less than one mile from Highway 64. Explore the ambiance of The Oaks at Salem, and create memories you’ll cherish for a lifetime.
When you meet April, tell her Makia said “hello”.
Keep it Sexy!
You may know that I am an instructor of an awesome Special Event Planning course through Wake Technical community college. What you didn’t know is that we have the pleasure of meeting and hearing expert advice from some of the Triangle’s top vendors!
Allow me to introduce Michelle Aldred.
Michelle Aldred is not only the owner of both Triangle Catering and the all-inclusive event venue, The Cotton Room; she is a visionary. Michelle’s venue is distinctive, her food is tantalizing and her personality – delightful. Michelle spoke to the students on a very lateral level; she addressed every question and extended invitations to each of them to come to the next open house (which happens to be Saturday, March 19, 2011 @ 11am). Thank you Michelle
The Cotton Room is located @ 807 East Main Street, Durham. The venue accommodates over 400 guests for weddings, corporate events and other large gatherings.
