I’m a little late in sharing, but I wanted to tell you all about the amazing time we had with Laura Schwartz of White House Strategies!
Laura came to town and talked to the fantastic members and guests of ISES-GT; she spoke to the value of networking and how to do it like a pro! Laura began the evening with a display of the principles she writes about. She certainly walks the talk! Below is a picture of the custom designed cake created by none other than Donna Ford of Sweet Memories Bakery.
Custom designed to match Laura
Laura embraced the attendees with a pleasant smile and firm handshake. She regaled the group with wonderful stories and tales of her “climb”. As the evening progressed, Laura spoke of her experiences as White House correspondent and beyond.
Laura Schwartz is a phenomenal speaker with a top-notch personality. The Greater Triangle Chapter of ISES thoroughly enjoyed the event and the food was amazing! The Crabtree Marriott delivered! They went above and beyond to ensure that we were taken care of and all needs were met.

As the title states, I am still on cloud nine from last night’s event!
I am overjoyed with the outcome of the Special Event Planning Course Panel Discussion held at 1705Prime yesterday.
This once in a lifetime event entitled, “The Event Industry: Beyond the Classroom… Behind the Scenes with NC Industry Leaders“, offered my students the opportunity to get up close and personal with a great group of industry professionals.
Our panel included: Tracy Adams of Adams and Events; Kevin DeHimer of Rocky Top Hospitality; Donna Ford of Sweet Memories; Lyn Graves of Fresh Affairs and Paula Hunter of Party Reflections.
The class left with industry insight and REAL TALK from REAL PEOPLE who love what they do and want to preserve industry standards and a strong code of ethics. It was AMAZING!! See the pictures below however I cannot say too much…it was a special night for my class only.
Paula put together 3 tabletops to show the students the variance of the rental costs.
Lyn provided these beautiful floral centerpieces
The students are getting to know the panelists
Rocky Top Hospitality provided a fabulous menu
What a wonderful night had by all!!
and of course a sweet treat = Sweet Memories
Keep it Sexy!
Our next guest speaker was none other than the joyous Julie Liles of Julie Liles Floral and Event Design. Julie arrived early to set up and she brought the most beautiful flowers. The students asked if they were real… “of course they are” was my response. The colors of the Anemones and Orchids were so vibrant; the Callas so regal. Julie was professional and her cheerful demeanor, so inviting.
Julie gave some fantastic tips on designing floral centerpieces on a budget; she also motivated and inspired the class to try designing some “simple” arrangements on their own as well as becoming professional florists. She spoke with individual students after her presentation and even left the flowers for the students to enjoy later. Julie encouraged the students to call her in the future with any other questions. Many thanks for the excellent presentation Julie!
