I’m a little late in sharing, but I wanted to tell you all about the amazing time we had with Laura Schwartz of White House Strategies!
Laura came to town and talked to the fantastic members and guests of ISES-GT; she spoke to the value of networking and how to do it like a pro! Laura began the evening with a display of the principles she writes about. She certainly walks the talk! Below is a picture of the custom designed cake created by none other than Donna Ford of Sweet Memories Bakery.
Custom designed to match Laura
Laura embraced the attendees with a pleasant smile and firm handshake. She regaled the group with wonderful stories and tales of her “climb”. As the evening progressed, Laura spoke of her experiences as White House correspondent and beyond.
Laura Schwartz is a phenomenal speaker with a top-notch personality. The Greater Triangle Chapter of ISES thoroughly enjoyed the event and the food was amazing! The Crabtree Marriott delivered! They went above and beyond to ensure that we were taken care of and all needs were met.
Thank you to all involved for creating a truly amazing and SEXY event! Special thanks to Julie Lee of the Marriott Crabtree; Carrie Peele of Blue Diamond Limo; Lenny Fritts of Touch of Class DJs; Allison Perry of Cute Buttons; Tesh Parekh of IWP Photography; Julie Liles ofJulie Liles Floral; Donna Ford of Sweet Memories Bakery; Makia Walls of AOT Events; Bridgett DuPree of Connie Duglin Linen

KEEP IT SEXY!
As the title states, I am still on cloud nine from last night’s event!
I am overjoyed with the outcome of the Special Event Planning Course Panel Discussion held at 1705Prime yesterday.
This once in a lifetime event entitled, “The Event Industry: Beyond the Classroom… Behind the Scenes with NC Industry Leaders“, offered my students the opportunity to get up close and personal with a great group of industry professionals.
Our panel included: Tracy Adams of Adams and Events; Kevin DeHimer of Rocky Top Hospitality; Donna Ford of Sweet Memories; Lyn Graves of Fresh Affairs and Paula Hunter of Party Reflections.
The class left with industry insight and REAL TALK from REAL PEOPLE who love what they do and want to preserve industry standards and a strong code of ethics. It was AMAZING!! See the pictures below however I cannot say too much…it was a special night for my class only.
Paula put together 3 tabletops to show the students the variance of the rental costs.
Lyn provided these beautiful floral centerpieces
The students are getting to know the panelists
Rocky Top Hospitality provided a fabulous menu
What a wonderful night had by all!!
and of course a sweet treat = Sweet Memories
Keep it Sexy!
I had the sweetest treat this week: I visited Sweet Memories Bakery, owned by none other than the talented, Donna Ford.
I was greeted with a pleasant smile when I walked through the door (that’s very important to a customer service guru). The teasing aroma of cake and icing and sugar and spice was enough to tempt Jenny Craig herself!
Although Donna was busy with orders and such, she took a moment to come out and talk. She was pleasant and charming and above that, she gave me CAKE! She practically forced me to take it (and if you believe that, have I got a bridge for you)!
I was treated to a Strawberry Shortcake cupcake that could have easily been perfectly picked, fresh from the strawberry patch; and the Southern Aristocrat was a true leader in the world of cupcakes. (Both are pictured below, pre-demolition).
The next time you’re in Apex, stop by for a treat and tell Donna, “Makia says hello”.
Sidebar: I was very nice and took them home for my family to taste. That will certainly get me some points in heaven! 😀
Keep it Sexy!
Just a few pictures of some beautiful cakes that I found around the web!
Isn’t this the cutest… especially with the matching napkins!
Dr. Seuss… enough said!
Upside down is always FUNKY!
And now for a LOCAL RALEIGH, NC FAVORITE…
and my very favorite by the talented artists at Swank Cake Design…
Isn’t this absolutely STUNNING?
(and I happen to know that they taste as good as they look)

Cake, cake and more cake… YUM
To know me is to know that I really enjoy great food; and (in my opinion) no meal is complete without dessert. Therefore I had no choice than to end our Special Event Planning class with CAKE!
I invited a good friend of mine, Tammy Tanner of Carolina Cake Company, to come in and share with us her story and most importantly HER CAKE.
She did just that… Known affectionately as the Cake Lady, Tammy took us on a journey of faith and endurance. She is an entertainer of sorts and she kept the class laughing. Not only were Tammy’s cupcakes presented in such an elegant manner, they were scrumptious. Thank you Tammy for sharing with us and you are welcome to come back again and again (with cake).
Who’s Gonna Have a Great Day Today? You Are!
